MOONG DAL CHILLA (LENTIL PANCAKE)


Get ready to flip over these healthy, nutritious moong dal chillas (lentil pancakes)! They are super delicious and protein-packed. I personally like to add in additional veggies, while my husband loves them with crumbled paneer and why daughter enjoys them with soft crumbled tofu. Let me know what you like in your chillas!

Ingredients

1 cup split moong dal (green or yellow)

3-4 cups hot water for soaking

½ cup for grinding (adjust as needed)

½ tsp turmeric powder

½ tsp red chili powder

1 tsp cumin

½ tsp cilantro cumin powder

2-3 green chillis (to taste)

1 tsp salt (to taste)

Juice of ½ lemon

Pinch hing

¼ cup chopped cilantro

Add ins: up to ¾ cup total – chopped green pepper or onion, grated beets or carrots, crumbled soft paneer or tofu

Method

  1. Rinse the moong dal 2 times and then soak in the hot water for 4 hours minimum. Rinse one more time
  2. In a high-speed blender, pulse the moong dal until it’s ground evenly
  3. Pour the batter into a bowl and add remainder ingredients. Whisk together very well. Taste and adjust spices
  4. Allow the batter to rest for 15 -20 mins
  5. Whisk again and add 1-2 tbs of water if needed
  6. Heat the skillet over medium-hot heat
  7. Spread the batter on the pan, drizzle a little oil on top/side, and flip to cook on the other side
  8. Enjoy with your favorite chutney, yogurt, or ketchup
