Popcorn and movies are always butter together, but masala popcorn and Bollywood movies are a-MAIZE-ing!! The recipe below is how I make it in the Instant Pot, but you can easily follow the same recipe to make it on the stovetop. In either case, the hardest part of the evening will be deciding which movie to watch! Be sure and save this post for your next movie night!
INGREDIENTS:
2 tbs coconut oil
½ cup popcorn
½ tsp popcorn seasoned salt
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp red chili powder
½ tsp chaat masala
½ tsp garam masala
½ tsp amchur powder
¼ tsp black pepper Note: You can adjust the salt and spices to your taste. You can also use other oils or butter but they have a lower burn temperature so they will pop darker
INSTRUCTIONS:
1 Press the saute button on the Instant Pot and press the + or Adjust button until it reads More (this increases the temperature of the IP)
2 Once the display reads “Hot” add the coconut oil and let it melt
3 Add in the popcorn kernels and the turmeric powder and stir the kernels to coat them with the turmeric oil
4 Cover the IP with a clear glass lid (make sure there are no gaps) and cook for 5-6 minutes or until 2/3 of the kernels are popped
5 Leave the lid on but turn the IP off. Let it sit for about 1-2 minutes as the remaining kernels will pop on their own
6 When the popcorn is done popping, transfer it to a large bowl or container and sprinkle the salt and masala all over the popcorn. Settle in and enjoy!
