As we end Diwali celebrations and prepare for Thanksgiving feasts, my body needs a healthy reset and I turn to this kokum power punch. Kokum is a plant in the mangosteen family, and it is used in many Indian dishes to add tartness and tanginess. Kokum has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. This kokum power punch also contains jeera (cumin) which has anti-bacterial properties and black salt which has antioxidant properties. I purchased this ready made powder in India but I’ve included a recipe for it below if you want to make it at home.
Note: I am not a doctor and this post is based on research I’ve done for myself and my family. Please do your own research.
INGREDIENTS
½ cup ground dry kokum
¼ cup sugar
2-3 crushed cardamom
½ tsp roasted cumin powder
1 pinch of black salt
METHOD
Grind all of the ingredients together and add a heaping spoon to a cup of water. Stir vigorously. Optionally, serve over ice and add ½ tsp of lemon and fresh basil or mint.
